History of PASSER

Progression Analysis and Signal System Evaluation Routine (PASSER™) is a registered trademark of the Texas Transportation Institute (TTI.) The PASSER™ series consists of three software packages designed for analyzing and optimizing signal timings. Developed 30 years ago, the first version of PASSER™ was intended for real-time applications. It was succesfully installed to provide real-time control at a 4-intersection section of Mockingbird Lane in Dallas, Texas. PASSER™ was also the first program in its class for optimizing the phase sequence of multi-phase traffic signals. In the late seventies, additional routines were added to provide offline analysis.
